He is Lecturer at the School of Music, University of Liverpool. He has published on a variety of topics related to popular music including DIY music scenes, the music industry and the mediation of music through documentary film, music video and music biography. He is a contributor and co-editor of The Beat Goes On: Liverpool, Popular Music and the Changing City (2010 Liverpool University Press) and is commissioning editor of the journal Popular Music History. As part of the Hive Collective, Robert has a track record in developing innovative electronic music performance, multimedia and live art events. As an electronic music performer and composer he has appeared at Tate Liverpool, the National Review of Live Art Glasgow, FACT, the BBC Festival of Ideas as well as festivals in France and Germany.
