Abstract

Women guitarist gain more and more prominence in different music styles, but not in Flamenco. This fact can be explained by historical, cultural, social... reasons because pairing women/guitars had been a problemathic issue, included in a bigger one, women/music. However there are two surprising facts. On the one hand, from the 19th century until the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) there were more tocaoras than nowadays. On the other hand, the almost absolute absence of reflections on this issue in Flamenco scholarship.
